EatSmart Restaurants @ FoodExpo 2011…..

For the past few years, the Department of Health has been promoting the concept of healthy eating to citizens in the FoodExpo platform. This year, we have injected some innovations by inviting Ms Candy CHEA, a famous Radio host and chefs from our EatSmart Restaurants to perform cooking demonstrations on stage. We aimed members of the public would have the opportunity to learn about the superb cooking skills and taste the specially prepared EatSmart dishes.

During the recruitment stage, restaurants have been very enthusiastic in submitting their recipes. We assessed their quality including their creativity, appearance, healthiness of cooking methods, etc., and have chosen Organic Life Café & Restaurant’s “Baked Portobello Mushroom Stuff with Mixed Forest Mushroom Filling” and Chinese Cuisine Training Institute’s “Hon-Shimeji Mushroom Roll with Scallop” to be the two EatSmart dishes in the demonstration event. Ms Candy CHEA demonstrated the healthy delicious dishes “Hairy Melon Stuffed with Pork and Lychee” during the event.

From 12 to 14 August, some 300 participants attended the activity and all expressed strong interest in healthy diet. They attentively observed the cooking steps and skills, some even recorded the recipes in writing. In the tasting sessions, they were joyful and excited when savouring the fresh and healthy EatSmart dishes.

can renew their membership by submitting the completed renewal application forms to the EatSmart Secretariat from October 2011 onwards.
