Veteran actor MAK Chuen-ching, alias “Mak Bau” (literally “Wheat bread” in Cantonese), is best known for his role as “Fei Fan Gor” (Extraordinary Brother), for which he won both the “TVB Anniversary Award for Best Supporting Actor” and the “Best Actor in a Supporting Role award” in the Asian Television Awards 2011 for the same role.
Mak Bau arrived at Hong Kong at the age of 12 and started to do outwork to top up the family income. To this day, he continues to work hard to provide for his 12-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son. He comments that “children of today’s generation have access to food choices once regarded as luxury, like lobster and salmon, as parents are willing to spend more money on their children”. To teach his children not to waste food, Mak Bau is very vigilant on the amount of food he ordered when dinning out.
Mak Bau believes that growing small plants such as cherry tomatoes is a good pastime for children because they can learn that things from the nature should be cherished.
