A Chef's Tips on Choosing a Healthy Light Meal

More fruits and veggies

“The brown bread and dried fruits add a rich hearty flavour and an al dente texture to the sandwich.”

Widen the variety of ingredients

“Fruits, vegetables and nuts are not only rich in nutrients, but also add depth to the flavour of the sandwich.”

Avoid processed foods

“Fresh fruits, healthy and refreshing, are much more preferred for light meals.”

Go for a right combination of foods and drinks

“While vegetable and mushroom soups are perfect complements to a light meal, I highly recommend fruit teas. They are so nice and refreshing.”

Healthy Home-made Sandwiches

Carmela encourages us to create our own sandwiches and burgers. She says, “One can make a simple and healthy sandwich by choosing a healthy combination of food ingredients and a healthy cooking method.” Yet she points out that a light meal may not be enough to replace a full meal. If one does not feel having had enough, one can try snacking on fruits, plain biscuits and plain nuts between meals.

Carmela hopes that the food industry can use less butter, baking soda and raising powder so as to reduce the sodium and fat content in bread.
