Jay FUNG - Hearty homey dishes

Jay FUNG migrated to Canada with his family when he was about one year old. He lived there until he completed his college degree. In 2011, Jay returned to Hong Kong and placed first runner-up in a singing contest organised by a local TV station.

Artistes often work irregular hours, yet Jay tries to maintain a healthy diet. He said, “I seldom eat late, and I avoid spicy foods. I always bring with me a flask of warm water, lemon water or other nourishing beverages to keep my throat moist.”





Raised in Canada as he is, Jay is very fond of traditional Chinese food. As his father stayed in Hong Kong for work, it was his mother who took care of the three sons alone. “My mother, always cooked Chinese dishes at home.. I'd say she cooked with her heart. Regular family dishes included ‘steamed minced pork’, ‘stir-fried Chinese kale’ and ‘stir-fried tomato and scrambled eggs’; these dishes contained lots of vegetables and just a little meat, which kept us healthy. My grandma was also a good cook and I miss her ‘fried fish fillets with corn sauce’ most, which was delicious and nutritious.”

Jay went back to Hong Kong. Fortunately, his father cooks well too. His pork and vegetable dumplings are even more delicious than those available at restaurants.
